What to Expect at Your Dental Exam

We understand that making a dental appointment can sometimes be a daunting task, especially if a trip to the dentist makes you nervous. You may not have been to the dentist for a while or maybe you just haven’t had time to schedule a visit.

We understand that sometimes life can get in the way, and this is where Kenmar Dental can make your life easier.

Here’s how we can do that:

  • Request an appointment ahead of time: Streamline the process by registering in advance of your visit by calling in or sending us a message. We can check your dental records for any issues or concerns before you even get here, saving you time. Once you arrive, there are no time consuming forms to fill out, so your appointment can get underway on time.
  • A friendly welcome: Once you arrive, a member of our team will greet you and make sure that you feel comfortable. Once the time for the dental appointment is ready, a friendly staff member will escort you to the consulting room. When you are seated and waiting, one of the dental assistants will start to set up the room so that your appointment can go smoothly.
  • Your checks and X-rays:
One of our dental assistants will go through the history of your dental care and will answer any concerns that you may have about the appointment. The assistant may also need to perform any necessary x-rays. This ensures that the doctor knows exactly how your teeth look and if you need any treatments or repairs to your teeth.
  • Professional teeth cleanings: You should also expect a dental teeth cleaning as this is essential for oral care. Dental cleanings roughly take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how much the dentist needs to clean and what the condition of your teeth is. Our staff will make sure the quality of the cleaning will be high as well as ensure that you are comfortable throughout the cleaning. Teeth cleaning is so important because a bacteria build-up can cause the enamel on your teeth to fade away, and that may lead to cavities and infections.
  • A comprehensive dental exam An appointment with Dr. Patel means you can feel completely at ease. At Kenmar Dental, we go above and beyond to ensure that every patient knows what treatment is necessary and why. If you have any questions at any point during, before, or after your consultation, please just ask.
  • Understanding the costs After your appointment, a team member will thoroughly explain the costs involved for any treatments or cleanings and what you can expect your insurance to cover. Being transparent about the cost of your treatment plan is very important to us. If you decide to commence with the plan or cleaning, this can sometimes be accommodated within the same visit, although it may be necessary to make a further appointment.

What To Expect During a Dental Teeth Cleaning

To begin the cleaning process, a dental hygienist or a dentist will inspect your teeth and gums using a small mirror. They are checking for gingivitis, inflamed gums, or any other dental concerns.

Using the small mirror, the dental hygienist will start to remove any plaque and tartar. The plaque is removed by using a scalar. They will use it to remove plaque around your teeth and your gum line. If you have a greater buildup of tartar in your mouth, the dental hygienist will concentrate on that area.

Once the tartar has been completely removed from your mouth, the dental hygienist will start the gritty toothpaste cleaning. This is when the dental hygienist uses a high-powered electric toothbrush with gritty toothpaste to deep clean your teeth as a way to remove any tartar completely. The sound of the machine is daunting, but it is completely harmless. This type of cleaning is deemed only necessary to do every six months or even once a year.

After the deep cleaning, you will receive a professional flossing session. Even if you regularly floss at home, nothing beats a professional doing it. They will deep clean between your teeth and even up to your gums, which may cause gums to bleed.

Once all the cleaning stages have been done, you will then have your mouth rinsed out. This is to get rid of any debris that may have been in your mouth. The rinse usually contains liquid fluoride, which makes it taste weird.

Your dentistry may also apply a fluoride treatment that helps guard against cavity build-up for around six months. It is a foamy gel that is painted on your teeth and immediately hardens in contact with your saliva.

Existing patients can log-in to our online portal to request an appointment. New patients can start by filling out this form, and a member of our team will be in touch.
